What eCompressedair Does to Rebuild an Airend
- Airend Repair (models repaired, warranty, etc)
We start an airend rebuild by mounting the airend to a disassembly stand with an overhead crane available and an oil pit for proper disposal of waste oil. A file is started and follows your airend through the airend rebuild process.
The airend is carefully disassembled and all damage is recorded. Measurements of damaged areas are noted and photos taken. We inspect the disassembled airend and generate a repair report that includes:
|
A damaged airend screw (rotor).
|
|
|
Repaired airend screw (rotor).
|
- Front and rear cover damage
- If sealing strips are partially worn
- Bearing journal damage
- Does the seal area have groves (scoring)?
- Is the male rotor bore out of round?
The entire disassembled airend is placed in a self-contained cleaning system. After cleaning all damaged components are repaired at our different shop stations. The front and rear covers will be metalized using a thermal ARC system. We use the appropriate size Blanchard grinder for finishing the front and rear covers. If required, next we...
- Mount the front male rotor bearing journal and use a lathe to metalize it and grind to specifications
- A vertical boring mill is used to plate the airend's main bore area.
- Seal strips are built up and re-cut on a custom jig.
After completing the above repairs the airend components are washed and taken to the reassembly area. We put replacement parts needed to complete reassembly with the airend including:
- Bearings
- Seals
- Gaskets
- And all other required replacement parts
As reassembly begins all bearing pockets, bores, and alignments are double checked. The male and female rotors (screws) are checked for proper balance and alignment. A proper bearing fit is checked and the bearing measurements are double checked. To make sure the airend is within the manufacturer's specification measurements are checked and double checked to ensure accuracy. Once the airend is reassembled it is painted and skidded.
Depending on the airend size (mm) and amount of repair work required the rebuild process normally takes 3 to 5 days.
