Desiccant
ECA has organized key information about bulk desiccant by type here. For more information choose a desiccant from the list below.
About DesiccantDesiccant, activated alumina for example, naturally attracts moisture from gases and liquids. The desiccant becomes saturated as moisture is adsorbed on the surface. The desiccant can be regenerated (dried-out) by heating and used again. Activated alumina can adsorb up to 40% its weight at 100% relative humidity. Solid bulk desiccant include silica gel, activated alumina, deliquescent and molecular sieves.Compressed air dryers are used throughout industry to remove moisture from compressed air. The compressed air first passes through an aftercooler, air receiver, and coalescing filter before reaching the desiccant dryer. At each point water is removed from the compressed air via drain valves. The compressed air enters the compressed air dryer and comes in contact with the desiccant in the desiccant chamber. The desiccant naturally removes the moisture from the compressed air via adsorption. Once downstream of the compressed air dryer the compressed air's dew point is generally -40°F (some units are designed to provide -100°F dew points). A particulate filter downstream of the desiccant dryer captures any desiccant fines and dust before the compressed air enters production. Desiccant used in compressed air dryers include:
