Polyglycol Based Coolants Lubricants PG2000 & PG3200Polyglycol Lubicants / Coolants PG2000 & PG3200 (pdf format)MATERIAL SAFETY DATA SHEETDATE ISSUED: August 2006PRODUCT IDENTIFICATIONPRODUCT NAME: ECAPG2000, ECAPG3200, PG2000, PG3200CHEMICAL NAME: CAS #s: 9003-13-8 Mixture CHEMICAL FAMILY: Polyoxyalkylene Glycol SYNONYMS: Synthetic Rotary Compressor Lubricant PRODUCT APPEARANCE AND ODOR Green viscous liquid, low odor HAZARDS IDENTIFICATIONPotential Health EffectsEYE: Essentially non-irritating to eyes. SKIN: Short single exposure may cause slight skin irritation. Prolonged or repeated exposure may cause slight skin irritation. Material may be handled at elevated temperatures; contact with heated material may cause thermal burns. A single prolonged exposure is not likely to result in the material being absorbed through skin in harmful amounts. INGESTION: Single dose oral toxicity is low. Small amounts swallowed incidental to normal handling operations are not likely to cause injury. Swallowing amounts larger than that may cause injury. INHALATION: At room temperature, vapors are minimal due to physical properties: a single exposure is not likely to be hazardous. If material is heated or mist is produced, concentrations may be attained that are sufficient to cause irritation and other effects. SUBCHRONIC: Observations in animals exposed to excessive amounts of similar glycols include slight kidney and liver effects. SHIPPING INFORMATIONTRANSPORTATION INCIDENT INFORMATION:This product is not regulated by the Department of Transportation when shipped domestically by land. PHYSICAL PROPERTIES
FIRE AND EXPLOSION DATEFlammable Properties
Extinguishing Media: Water fog, carbon dioxide, dry chemical, foam. For large scale fires, general purpose synthetic foams or protein foams are preferred if available. Alcohol resistant foams may function also. If possible, contain fire run-off water. For large scale fires, direct water stream may cause violent frothing, but fine water spray may help control situation. Fire Fighting Instructions: When using water spray, boil over may occur when the product temperature reaches the boiling point of water (tank type scenarios, not spills). Protective Equipment For Fire Fighters: Wear a positive pressure self-contained breathing apparatus and full protective equipment. STABILITY AND REACTIVITYChemical Stability: Stable under normal handling conditions.Conditions to Avoid: Incompatibility With Other Materials: Oxidizing materials and strong acids. Hazardous Decomposition Products: Hazardous decomposition products may include and are not limited to carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, water, and unidentified organic compounds. Hazardous Polymerization: Will not occur ACCIDENTAL RELEASE MEASURESAction to Take for Spills: Keep out of sewers, storm drains, surface waters, and soil. Small spills: Soak up with absorbent material. Large spills: Dike and pump into suitable containers. Clean up residual with absorbent material and wash with water. Caution: May be a slipping hazard. Assure conformity with applicable disposal regulations. Dispose of absorbed material at an approved waste site or facility.TOXICITYACUTE
FIRST AID
PROTECTION AND PRECAUTIONSEngineering Controls: Good general ventilation should be sufficient for most conditions. Local exhaust ventilation may be necessary for some operations.Personal Protective Equipment
HANDLING AND STORAGESpecial Precautions to be Taken in Handling and Storage:Exercise reasonable care and cleanliness. This product may decompose at elevated temperatures generating vapors, which could be irritating. For uses at elevated temperatures, adequate ventilation or exhaust is recommended. Spills of these organic liquids on hot fibrous insulations may lead to lowering of the auto-ignition temperature possibly resulting in spontaneous combustion. ECOLOGICAL INFORMATIONEnvironmental Fate:Movement & Partitioning: No relevant information Degradation & Transformation: Biodegradation under aerobic static laboratory conditions is moderate (BOD20 or BOD28/ThOD between 10 and 40%). Five-day biochemical oxygen demand (BOD5) is 0.13 p/o. Ten-day biochemical oxygen demand (BOD 10) is 0.20 p/p. 20-day biochemical oxygen demand (BOD2O) is 0.48 p/p. 28-day biochemical oxygen demand (BOD 28) is 0.80 p/p. Theoretical oxygen demand (ThOD) is calculated to be 2.37 p/p. Material considered biodegradable based on 82% DOC disappearance in the EPA Aerobic Aquatic Biodegradation test. Exotoxicity: Material is moderately toxic to aquatic organisms on an acute basis (LC5O between 1 and 10 mg/L in most sensitive species). Acute LC5O for fathead minnow (Pimephales promelas) is 51 ppm. Acute LC5O for daphnia pulex is 2.8 ppm. DISPOSAL CONSIDERATIONSDisposal: Any disposal practice must be in compliance with all federal, state, provincial, and local laws and regulations. State/provincial and local requirements for waste disposal may be more restrictive or otherwise different from federal laws and regulations. Regulations may also vary in different locations. Chemical additions, processing, storage, or otherwise altering this material may make the waste management information presented in this MSDS incomplete, inaccurate, or otherwise inappropriate. Waste characterization and disposal compliance are the responsibility solely of the party generating the waste or deciding to discard or dispose of the material. None of these waste management options should be considered “arranging for disposal”.Do not allow into any sewers, on the ground, or into any body of water. The preferred waste management option for unused, uncontaminated, unformulated, or not otherwise altered material is to send to a properly licensed or permitted recycler, reclaimer, or incinerator. The same waste management options are recommended for used or contaminated material, although additional evaluation is required. Refer to 40 CFR Section 261, and/or any other appropriate federal, state, provincial, or local requirements for proper classification information. U.S. REGULATIONS
